ESG at ESC

As Professional Engineers and Sustainability Consultants, we take our responsibility towards ethical practices seriously.

We take great pains to ensure we provide accurate advice to our clients and strive to enhance the environment for the benefit of all. While there is no legal obligation for us to report on our Environmental, Social, and Governance standards, we go beyond mere words by actively monitoring and measuring our impact on the world around us.

Our commitment is evident in our achievements, which include:

ISO Standards: We are proud to have achieved accreditation under ISO9001:2015 (Quality Management System) and ISO14001:2015 (Environmental Management System) with Citation.

Addressing Climate Change: Recognising the profound impact of our industry on climate breakdown and biodiversity loss, we are determined to contribute to resolving these crises. As early signatories of the #BuildingServicesEngineersDeclare commitment, we affirm our dedication to this cause.

UK Green Building Council Membership: As one of 500 members of the UKGBC, we actively share sustainability best practices to positively transform the places people use every day.

We’re Carbon Neutral: We are honoured to partner with Carbon Neutral Britain, offsetting our carbon footprint through the Woodland Fund™ Portfolio of verified carbon offsetting projects worldwide. Our certification as a Carbon Neutral Business reflects our commitment to environmental stewardship.

Volunteering Policy: Our Volunteer Scheme allows and encourages employees to take up to two days of paid time off to volunteer within their local community, supporting non-profit organisations.

Climate Change – #EngineersDeclare

We are aware of how our industry impacts on climate breakdown and biodiversity loss and are committed to play our part in resolving these crises. To this end we are signatories of the #BuildingServicesEngineersDeclare commitment to…

  • Advocate for faster change in our industry towards regenerative design practices and a higher Governmental funding priority to support this.
  • Establish climate and biodiversity mitigation principles as a key measure of our industry’s success: demonstrated through awards, prizes and listings.
  • Share knowledge and research to that end on an open source basis.
  • Evaluate all new projects against the aspiration to contribute positively to mitigating climate breakdown, and encourage our clients to adopt this approach.
  • Upgrade existing buildings for extended use as a more carbon efficient alternative to demolition and new build whenever there is a viable choice.
  • Include life cycle costing, whole life carbon modelling and post occupancy evaluation as part of the basic scope of work, to reduce both embodied and operational resource use.
  • Adopt more regenerative design principles in practice, with the aim of providing building services engineering design that achieves the standard of net zero carbon.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, engineers and contractors to further reduce construction waste.
  • Accelerate the shift to low energy and nearly net zero energy in all our work.
  • Minimise wasteful use of resources in our building services engineering design, both in quantum and in detail.
