The Brief: The new, high-quality 1,500m² spa facility is located within the Carden Park Hotel Country Estate in Cheshire. It has been awarded a ‘Five Bubble Luxury Spa’ rating with cutting edge treatments and first-rate facilities including a sensory hydrotherapy pool, hot tubs, fire pits and ‘secret garden’ relaxation spaces as well as a central champagne bar.

Our brief was to deliver an intrinsically low energy building, harnessing passive design measures and energy efficient equipment to provide bespoke environmental comfort. We collaborated with the Architect and Spa Designer to engineer the building envelope to minimise energy loss whilst creating a strategic visual impact. Dynamic thermal modelling simulation software optimised the quantity and performance of the glazing and brise soleil for the rear elevation which overlooks the grounds and golf driving range.

Low carbon and renewable technologies have been designed, incorporating air to water air source heat pump systems and an inbuilt roof photovoltaic array. Heat recovery ventilation has been designed to provide fresh air throughout the building. A fully digital Building Management System (BMS) optimises the control of all systems, providing demand control and energy targeting ability.

The building achieves full compliance with the requirements of the 2013 Building Regulations Approved Document Part L2A.

The Engineering Difference: ESC provided ACE Schedule of Services Performance Duties.
