The Brief: The newly-built Vinson Building is home to the Vinson Centre for Economics and Entrepreneurship. Facilities over the three floors include a new enterprise hub, offices, library, bookshop, coffee bar and other informal learning spaces. The building also houses a 160-seat lecture theatre providing space for teaching, conference and community events. The building’s location, in the market town of Buckingham, dictated specific planning requirements which would ensure the building was sympathetic to the historical Georgian architecture typical of the area.
The Engineering Difference: Close collaboration was required with the design team to ensure the details and features of a traditional-style building were incorporated with modern, efficient and discrete building services systems. ESC provided detailed design services for both the Mechanical and Electrical services, whilst also assessing the building to a BREEAM Very Good rating.
