The Brief: A development of eight retail units, including a purpose-built unit for Travis Perkins in Welwyn Garden City. The building accommodates a number of retail tenants and was built on a brownfield site.

The Engineering Difference: The project was made more complex by its location adjacent to a major road junction and the railway lines and the need to re-design an existing electricity infrastructure in conjunction with the DNO. Each unit has different occupier requirements which needed to be clearly defined and costed. A BREEAM rating of Very Good (65%) was achieved under BREEAM New Construction 2014: Retail (Fully Fitted).

Key Aspects:

  • Highly engineered building envelope
  • LZC technologies incorporated
  • EPCs of ‘A’
  • BREEAM Very Good
  • New utilities infrastructure
