We do this by promoting developments that minimise the impact on the Earth’s resources yet still deliver the performance demanded by their occupants. Of course, not everyone who occupies your building will be skilled in managing engineering services or building operations, nor should they have to be! That’s why we’re here; to make sure that the building and occupants communicate with each other (as daft as that sounds?!) to ensure a happy, healthy and comfortable environment for all.
We promote the design of Type B buildings (as defined by The Usable Buildings Trust). This means that your building should be less complicated yet more robust which, in turn, means it will need less energy to operate efficiently, optimising it’s operation for a longer sustained period.
We are also proud members of the BSRIA Soft Landings Programme which aims to close the gap between the assumptions and expectations of a client and the actual design and performance of the building. Sharing the knowledge of the building designers and engineers is a vital part of turning the concept of sustainability into a reality and we’re here to provide that comprehensive service should you chose to adopt the SLP for your project.
The Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method (BREEAM) is the world’s foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, setting the standard for best practice in environmental performance and sustainable building design, construction and operation. It encourages designers, clients and others to think about low impact design and the minimisation of energy demands.
The assessments evaluate a building’s specification, design, construction and use including aspects related to energy and water use, the internal environment (health and well-being), pollution, transport, materials, waste, ecology and management processes. We have four BREEAM accredited professionals who will guide you through the process in order to secure your best possible BREEAM rating. For further information on BREEAM, the benefits it may bring to your development and the ways in which are able to help you please see our BREEAM page.
We are committed to ensuring we play our part in resolving the crises of climate breakdown and biodiversity loss. We are all too aware of how our industry can adversely impact our environment. To this end we have signed up to the #BuildingServicesEngineersDeclare which is our commitment to raising awareness of how we can best create a more positive impact on the world around us.
